Manchester United takeover: Are the Glazers considering options?
Manchester United players and staff have been reportedly informed that the owners will convey to them a clear picture of ownership at the end of the season.
According to a report by ESPN, insider sources have contacted them that a coherent picture of the club’s ownership details would be presented to them after this season ends.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani are the only two interested buyers who have announced their bid publicly. A meeting is scheduled to take place with the current owners of Manchester United, the Glazer family at the end of this month.
The Glazers have valued the club at around six billion pounds and the bidders believe that the valuation is over-valued and they will look to lower that price in the upcoming interactions. The report claims that the merchant bank handling the transactions, Raine have indicated that the Glazers are interested in parties looking for an outright purchase of the club. Full-takeover bids would be prioritised but many minor equity firms are coming up to hold a stake in the club’s assets.

If that becomes the actual case, then the bid of Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani would be considered as the best one as backed by huge financial resources, he shouldn’t have to bargain much with the Glazers about the selling price. Furthermore, the Qatari Banker wants to negotiate an outright takeover of Manchester United without the option of public investment. It remains to be seen how this offer is taken by the club’s huge supporter base around the globe as since time immemorial, fans have had a direct voice to Man United’s operations.
Meanwhile, Sir Jim Ratcliffe with his company INEOS is aiming to take over the 69 per cent stake currently held by the Glazer family and then he would proceed to delist the shares and ensure a 100 per cent stake-based takeover.
As things stand, United’s rejuvenation in recent months has left the current owners thinking about whether to sell the club which can provide them with a much bigger revenue in the future. The bids are all there and a few are expected to be coming soon.
