The recent 7-0 loss to Liverpool has sounded alarm bells in Manchester United with coach Erik ten Hag keen on bringing reinforcements in the summer transfer window to bolster his squad in multiple positions.

While the Dutch boss poached Lisandro Martinez from his former side Ajax last season, he continues to scout the market for new centre-back signings. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, and Phil Jones have all seen reduced playtime under the former Ajax coach with Raphaël Varane and Martinez clearly the preferred pairing. Even left-back Luke Shaw has taken over the central position on six occasions this season, indicating that Ten Hag is strongly considering bringing new faces to his defence.

Manchester United ready €8m/year contract for Inter defender

One such name being linked with the Manchester giants is Inter Milan centre-back Alessandro Bastoni. The 23-year-old has been a prominent feature in Inter’s defensive lineup this season, making 28 appearances across all competitions.

Currently having an annual salary of €2.7m pre-add-ons with a contract with the Serie A giants until 2024, the defender is strongly considering his future. Inter are prepared to offer €4.5m plus bonuses to sign the promising youngster for many years but his agent is adamant about the prospect deserving a €6m contract. While Inter are keen on keeping their rising star, failing to reach an agreement could lead to United signing Bastoni with Inter Live reporting that the Red Devils are prepared to offer €8m a year to lure him away from Italy.

Inter have already lost their superstar defender Milan Škriniar to Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer and want to avoid a similar situation happening with Bastoni. While this could make it difficult for United, a lucrative contract along with the chance of playing in the Premier League could be enough to lure the youngster.
