Barcelona boss Xavi Hernandez has come out supporting Qatari billionaire Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani as the new owner of Manchester United.

The Glazer family are ready to sell the club for a reported fee of £5 billion,  and last Friday was set as the deadline for all potential takeover bids. The wealthiest person in the UK, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is currently leading the race alongside the Qatari consortium. Ratcliffe is a lifelong United fan, but Sheikh Jassim is also adamant about his desire to revamp the Premier League giants.

However, controversies have been surrounding the Qatari bid with many pledging UEFA to stop them from making an attempt over the takeover. This is due to the fact that they are already owners of another major European club, Paris Saint-Germain. On top of that, there have been many human rights and LGBT+ concerns in the country.

With Barcelona set to face the Manchester side for the second leg of their Europa League clash, coach Xavi Hernandez was asked about his opinion as the Spaniard has six years of experience in the Middle East with Al Sadd.

The midfield maestro is backing the Qatari bid stating,

"“I have a good relationship with the person interested in buying the club, he’s a serious person and I’m sure he’d do a good job,” Xavi said when quizzed on the potential takeover. I know him so well. I think he’s a very good person with responsibility, serious. I think it would be a very good option for United.”via (Goal)"

The Galzer’s will be considering all bids before finalizing their decision over the sale of the club but with American hedge fund Elliott Management reportedly interested in funding United without any attempts to take over, the Galzer’s could potentially remain as owners.
