Manchester United are in a tight situation regarding their right-back role with the future of both Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in doubt after the conclusion of the current season.

Wan-Bissaka is a wanted man in the Premier League and with Erik ten Hag clearly preferring Dalot over the 25-year-old, he may well be on his way out; especially with Spanish wonderkid Ivan Fresneda being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Unfortunately for Ten Hag, his first choice is yet to sign a contract renewal and with his current contract expiring in June 2024, many European giants are keeping a close eye on the Portuguese international.

According to AS, Real Madrid are in the market for a new right-back and have started to plot a summer transfer deal for the 23-year-old. With Joao Cancelo joining Bayern Munich on a loan deal with a purchase option, the Spanish giants have decided to opt for Dalot, especially after the latter took precedence over his Portuguese counterpart during the World Cup.

United have been working hard on the Portuguese’s renewal for months as they do not want to be in a situation where the youngster leaves for free once his contract expires. Real Madrid, however, are evaluating two options, either signing him for below market price in the summer or waiting until his contract expires and acquiring him on a free transfer.

Considering both David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger joined Los Blancos on a free transfer, Carlo Ancelotti may very well be patient in his approach in order to secure Dalot in a similar fashion. However, it is certain that the European champions need a new right-back with Lucas Vázquez and Dani Carvajal turning 33 and 32 respectively in June.

It remains to be seen what happens regarding the right-back role at Old Trafford but Ten Hag will be adamant about keeping Dalot with the possibility of securing a new contender in the summer.

Would you renew Dalot or sell him before his contract expires?
