Manchester United legend wants €80 million midfielder at Old Trafford
Fans of Barcelona and Manchester United enjoyed a thriller first-leg clash between the two sides in the Europa League knockout play-off, finishing 2-2 at the Spotify Camp Nou. With the Catalan giants set to travel to Old Trafford for the second leg, everyone will expect a similar performance from both teams, with the winner undoubtedly the new favorite to win the tournament.
One Man Utd legend who is particularly excited for the second leg is Paul Scholes who hailed Erik ten Hag for the team’s performance,
"“What a game to watch, so exciting. There wasn’t a breath taken, both teams really going for it. A bit of a throwback really when you look at it… They look a proper team now.” Scholes said post-matchSource DailyMail"
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes wants Frenkie de Jong at Old Trafford
A player that came under the spotlight before the match was former Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong who was strongly linked with a move to United in the last summer transfer window. Red Devils reportedly bid £72 million for the midfielder but the deal fell through due to the Dutch international’s desire to remain at the Nou Camp.
Despite this, the former Ajax boss remains adamant about bringing the 25-year-old to Old Trafford and club legend Scholes also wants to see him play for the Premier League giants.
"“You would love to see Frenkie de Jong play at Old Trafford, he can play deeper as a pivot or a little bit further forward which I think is his best position, A fantastic footballer, can dribble and I think United fans will be looking out for him today. But I’m sure all the big teams in the Premier League would love to have this guy because he makes you that much better.” Scholes told BT Sport (via the Daily Mirror)."
It remains to be seen if a second attempt will be made this summer to sign De Jong but considering how much Ten Hag loves the idea of having him at Manchester, it won’t come as a surprise if a big offer is made.
