Manchester United were very impressive in the recent summer transfer window. Some rumours have suggested that they went over the budget that they had set for themselves after the terrible start that the Red Devils had made to the campaign. Ultimately, the club ended up signing Casemiro, Antony, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Martin Dubravka.
That is an impressive list of players and seems to have put Manchester United firmly in the top four race. But there are some good players that they missed out on as well.
Cody Gakpo is someone who seemed to be an alternative target for Manchester United, in case they had failed to sign Antony. The Dutchman is enjoying a sensational campaign though and now, it feels like the Red Devils should have pushed harder for his signature.
As reported by Transfermarkt, Gakpo has scored 8 goals and provided 6 assists in 7 Eredivisie appearances this season for PSV Eindhoven till now, while playing 499 minutes of football in total. Those are extraordinary numbers, especially for a winger.
Manchester United are still interested in signing brilliant Dutch winger
As reported by Forbes, Manchester United remain interested in signing Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven in the next twelve months. The Red Devils tracked the 23-year-old player throughout last summer before ultimately deciding to shelve their interest until a future transfer window.
It is safe to say that Gakpo is playing some incredible football right now and he has all the physical attributes required to be a success in the Premier League as well.
With the kind of football that Gakpo is playing at the moment though, there is expected to be a lot more interest in him in future transfer windows and Manchester United could very possibly have let him slip through their fingers late on in the summer.
