Manchester United have quite a few options at centre-back at the moment. Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez, who was signed from Ajax in the summer, seem to have established themselves as the first-choice centre-back pairing in the heart of defence. While Harry Maguire finds himself on the bench at this point of time. The Red Devils still have the likes of Victor Lindelof, Axel Tuanzebe, Phil Jones and Teden Mengi as well.

Yet, one has to wonder what the future holds for players like Maguire, Lindelof, Jones and Tuanzebe, who are not getting the minutes that they would be looking for and in some of their cases, their deals run out next summer.

Thus, do not be surprised if Manchester United have to sign another centre-back or two next summer, and one of the names that they are being linked with once again is Pau Torres, who is believed to have been on their radar for years now.

As reported by La Razon, Torres will enter the final year of his contract with Villarreal next summer and that is something that the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur will try to take advantage of. So, the Yellow Submarine could have to negotiate for a transfer fee lower than his release clause of €65 million.

Manchester United are being linked with a move for Torres once again

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Torres for years now, going as far back as to when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the manager of the club.

He has been very highly rated in La Liga for a long time and has established himself as a starter for the Spanish national team.

There are some question marks over whether he would fit into the fast-paced and intense style of the Premier League though.
