Manchester United and Liverpool share the biggest rivalry in English football. The two clubs are firmly at the top when it comes to being the most successful in England. And while their great runs have rarely coincided, when the two meet on the pitch, it is always a spectacle to behold.

Thus, it is no wonder that it is rare for players to have represented both Liverpool and Manchester United during the course of their careers, and only a handful have done so. In fact, during the Premier League era, the only two are Paul Ince and Michael Owen.

Now, it looks like another name could potentially be added to that exclusive list in the upcoming January transfer window.

As reported by SPORT, Barcelona would be willing to let Memphis Depay go to Liverpool next January in exchange for Roberto Firmino landing at the Camp Nou.

It is safe to say that Depay did not have a brilliant career at Manchester United but he had arrived with a lot of expectations and even given the legendary number 7 shirt.

While Depay did show flashes of his potential during his time at Old Trafford, ultimately, he failed to nail down a spot in the team and was gone from the club pretty soon. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 7 goals and provided 6 assists in 53 appearances for the Red Devils.

The Dutchman would go on to resurrect his career at Lyon and is the second highest scorer in the history of the Dutch national team, behind only Robin van Persie.

Yet, his time at Barcelona has not gone as expected, especially since the arrival of Xavi as manager. Many people expected him to leave this summer itself but a move failed to transpire.

On the other hand, Firmino is a bona fide Liverpool legend. But his current deal runs out next summer and the general feeling is that he will be moving on, looking for a new challenge, after having achieved everything at Anfield.

Thus a swap deal involving Depay and Firmino would make sense for both Liverpool and Barcelona, as well as both the players involved.
