Manchester United might have an interesting situation in goal at the moment. David de Gea has been the club’s number one for over a decade now. But now, it looks like there are serious question marks over the Spaniard and his future at Old Trafford, as he does not look like a great fit in Erik ten Hag’s style of football even though he remains an excellent shot stopper.

In the past, De Gea has found himself in difficult situations as well but managed to come out on top. Will it be the same this time around as well or will he finally head out of the Old Trafford exit door.

Time shall tell but amidst all this, Manchester United are once again being linked with Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak, who has been considered as one of the best goalkeepers in the world for a while even though he is not coming off of a great 2021/22 campaign. And it appears that the Red Devils have been handed a boost in their quest to sign him.

As reported by the Mirror, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez has emerged as a target for Atletico Madrid should they lose Oblak. The Spanish club will even consider selling the goalkeeper in January rather than risk losing him as a free agent six months later and Manchester United are among a number of clubs understood to be monitoring his situation.

Manchester United have been handed boost in quest to sign Oblak

It is safe to say that if Manchester United are able to sign Oblak then it would be considered as a major coup on the part of the club.

They have recently signed one of La Liga’s best players in Casemiro and could very soon have the opportunity to add another one to that list.

Interestingly, it is believed that the club overspent in the summer in their attempt to provide Ten Hag with a strong squad. Thus, one would not expect them to splash out in January.
