Manchester United and Liverpool find themselves in different situations right now and surprisingly, it is the Red Devils would are happier at the moment. They have gone on a four game winning streak in the Premier League and look to be on the right path under the management of Erik ten Hag.

On the other hand, while most people expected Liverpool to compete for the Premier League title once again this season, they have not made the start that they needed to do so and at the moment, are not looking like the side that has dominated English football alongside Manchester City for the last several years.

In January though, both Manchester United and Liverpool could find themselves vying for the signature of the same player.

As reported by CalcioMercato, Manchester United and Liverpool have set their sights on Flamengo’s Brazilian midfielder, Joao Gomes.

Manchester United and Liverpool could end up battling for Brazilian midfielder in January

Gomes is a defensive midfielder who currently plays for Flamengo in Brazil and is just 21 years of age, but he seems to have caught the eye of two of the biggest clubs in the world.

It will be interesting to see if either of them manages to sign Gomes or not. It is pretty clear that Liverpool are need of strengthening their midfield as that seems to be their big weakness at the moment.

On the other hand, for Manchester United, someone like Gomes could be a long-term signing, with them having already brought in Casemiro in the summer.

While the Brazilian might be only 21 years of age, he has already played quite a bit of football at the senior level. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Gomes has made 106 appearances for Flamengo till now, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists in the process of doing so.
