Manchester United might have gotten their recruitment right after a long time this summer, as it looks like their signings have had a positive impact on the team and might have turned them into genuine top four contenders in the Premier League, something that was looking improbable not too long ago.

One of the most important additions that they appear to have made is that of Lisandro Martinez and Manchester United’s defender seems to have become a lot more solid in recent weeks.

Yes, Martinez had a rough introduction to the English game, as Manchester United lost their first two Premier League matches of the campaign and conceded six goals in the process but lately, they have been solid at the back, winning games and consistently keeping clean sheets.

Martinez’s Argentine teammate and Tottenham Hotspur star, Cristian Romero, has gone as far as naming him as one of the best defenders in the Premier League. As reported by Sky Sports, the former Atalanta star said:

"“Today, the best defender for me is Virgil van Dijk, always, and Lisandro Martinez from Manchester United.“For me, they are the best in the Premier League.”"

Romero has praised Manchester United star and Van Dijk as the best in the Premier League

Of course, the fact that both play together for the Argentine national team might have played a part in Romero’s judgement but even then, this is high praise for Martinez and will do his confidence no harm.

It must be pointed out though that we are just at the start of the campaign and there is still a long way to go for Manchester United and Romero. Thus, it is important to keep on improving and producing results.

There have been way too many seasons in recent memory when Manchester United have made a bright start before fading away completely. The club and the players need to make sure that this does not turn out to be another one of them.
