As we enter the last few days of the summer transfer window, it looks like Manchester United will remain busy. The Red Devils look to be on the verge of agreeing a huge deal for Antony, which is a boost for sure, after they have chased the Ajax winger all summer. On the other hand, the future of Cristiano Ronaldo is up in the air, with recent rumours emerging that he could be sent out on loan so that he can continue to play Champions League football.
Thus, it looks like the situation is still pretty fluid at Manchester United and things can change at the drop of a dime.
One area of the pitch where the Red Devils could still be looking to strengthen though is right-back. Diogo Dalot is pretty much Erik ten Hag’s first-choice there but it does not feel like the Dutch manager has plans for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
And as reported by SPORT, Barcelona and Manchester United are intensifying contacts in recent hours to reach agreements between players. Sergino Dest is not in Xavi’s plans and a pure exchange with Manchester United is contemplated for Wan-Bissaka.
Barcelona and Manchester United could swap right-backs this summer
Wan-Bissaka was one of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s big signings and one that he stuck by till the end of his reign as Manchester United manager.
The right-back has found much less joy since then though. He struggled to get into the team under the management of Ralf Rangnick and that has continued since the arrival of Ten Hag. Thus, a move away might be the best step for him.
While Wan-Bissaka is a very good player on the defensive end of the pitch, he simply does not offer enough going forward and has failed to improve that aspect of his game.
Bringing in someone like Dest could be interesting. He is another player that Ten Hag knows well from their time together at Ajax and can hopefully get the best out of.
