Most of the rumours surrounding Manchester United recently have been regarding potential incomings and it is very much needed. But at the same time, the departure of players who have very little chance of getting first-team football under the management of Erik ten Hag is equally important.

There have been several exits already this summer, mostly because contracts ran out, and there could be more before the transfer window slams shut.

Eric Bailly seems to be on the verge of leaving Manchester United and join Ligue 1 giants, Marseille.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Bailly will be at Carrington today to say goodbye to his teammates and then he will fly to Marseille within 24 hours in order to join the Ligue 1 side. It is a loan deal with a mandatory buy clause if the French club manage to qualify for next season’s Champion League.

Manchester United star is on the verge of sealing Old Trafford exit

Bailly arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2016. High expectations surrounded him back then after a promising spell at Villarreal. Many even believed that he could develop into one of the best centre-backs in all of Europe.

To be fair to the Ivory Coast international, he has put in a number of solid performances over the years, when he has been fit and in form. Unfortunately, that has not been the case too often though, as he has had to spend significant time out on the sidelines over the years.

Thus, his first-team chances at Manchester United were already limited and were further reduced following the arrival of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.

Thus, a move away from Old Trafford seems like the right step for all parties involved. Bailly is without doubt a very talented defender and let’s see if he can find a more success at Marseille than he did at Manchester United.
