Erik ten Hag’s start to life at Manchester United has been difficult to put it mildly. The Red Devils have lost both their games this season till now, against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford, and in convincing fashion. And next they will face Liverpool, who must be keen to get their first win of the season as well, after drawing both their games till now.

Manchester United have made some signings till now and are expected to make further before the transfer window slams shut. But the biggest task that Ten Hag might have at Old Trafford, is to get the best out of the players already at the club.

One player he will know very well is Donny van de Beek, who has struggled since his move to Manchester United. In fact, it is easy to forget that he was the marquee signing of the 2020 summer transfer window but appears to have become an afterthought by now.

As reported by The Sun, Ten Hag was shocked at how far Van de Beek’s confidence has dropped since he was his manager at Ajax. He has held talks with the 25-year-old to find out why he hasn’t shown the form which convinced Manchester United to sign him in the first place.

Van de Beek had made a bright start to life at Manchester United and even scored on his debut for the club. But it has been all downhill since then.

Paul Pogba found his form following Van de Beek’s arrival, meaning the Dutch international never really got a run in the first-team, and that has not changed since then.

Van de Beek even spent time on loan at Everton last season but that was not a particular success either.

Now, Manchester United fans will be hoping that Ten Hag is able to get the best out of him.
