Manchester United have a number of big names in their squad like Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Martial. Thus, it is a bit of a surprise that they have faced a problem finding the back of the net on a consistent basis in recent times. None of their players have managed to score this season till now, with their strike against Brighton & Hove Albion being an own goal. They drew a blank against Brentford, who walked out with a stunning 4-0 win.

It is safe to say that Manchester United will need a regular goalscorer, if they are to even compete for a top four spot this season. Things have become even trickier due to the fact that Ronaldo’s future at the club remains uncertain.

Thus, it would be smart on the part of Manchester United to go after another striker this summer, and they seem to have one in their sights, who has scored 40 goals over the past two seasons.

As reported by Cope (via Manchester Evening News), talks between Manchester United and Espanyol for a possible transfer of Raul de Tomas have started and the transfer fee for this deal could be around £25 million.

Manchester United could make move for Espanyol striker this summer

De Tomas has been excellent in recent times. Not only has he managed to shine for Espanyol but he has broken into the Spanish national team set up as well.

Someone like De Tomas could be a solid addition for Manchester United, but at the same time, he does not have an extensive record of success at the top level, even at 27 years of age.

Thus, there will be a bit of risk involved in this move, if Manchester United are able to pull it off. Let’s see how things turn out over the coming weeks.
