Midfield is an area where Manchester United need to strengthen in badly. It has been viewed as a weakness in this team for years now and it was a major surprise when the club did not end up making an addition in the middle of the park at the start of last season. In hindsight, it feels like that was a major mistake as the Red Devils failed to win a single trophy or finish in the top four.
On top of that, players like Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata have departed as well, further weakening the Manchester United midfield in the process.
Thus, signing a midfielder this summer is more of a necessity than a luxury. One player that they appear to have been chasing for a good while is Frenkie de Jong but it feels like that chase might lead nowhere as the saga has dragged on and rumours have suggested that he does not want to join Manchester United.
As a result, it might not be a bad idea for Erik ten Hag’s side to move their eyes elsewhere. And as reported by Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are considering a €68 million (£57.5 million) bid for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Manchester United considering huge bid for midfielder
This is not the first time that Manchester United have been linked with a potential move for Sergej.
He has been one of the most highly-rated midfielders in Europe for a long time but has never gotten a move away from Lazio till now.
He has all the attributes to be a success in the Premier League and at 27 years of age, is in the middle of his prime as well. Thus, if Manchester United are able to sign him, it could prove to be a major success.
On the other hand, Manchester United are believed to be closing in on a move for Adrien Rabiot as well.
