Manchester United fans must have already gotten tired of the entire Frenkie de Jong saga. The Red Devils appear to have been chasing the Dutch midfield maestro’s signature for the entire summer transfer window, but have not been able to get a deal done, although it looks like Barcelona are very open to letting the player go.

There have been suggestions in the media that De Jong is the one who is not convinced by the project at Manchester United and as a result, not keen on moving to Old Trafford, despite the presence of former Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag.

On the other hand, Manchester United might be facing some tough competition for De Jong’s signature as well in the form of Premier League rivals, Chelsea.

As reported by SPORT, Chelsea are going after De Jong and will present an offer for him.

Chelsea hand De Jong transfer blow to Manchester United

The names of Chelsea and Barcelona have been linked throughout this summer transfer window. Andreas Christensen departed Stamford Bridge at the end of his contract to move to Camp Nou.

On the other hand, Barcelona also beat Chelsea to the signings of Raphinha and Jules Kounde, while it is believed that they want to sign Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso. Could the two clubs be involved in some more transfer business?

The situation surrounding De Jong is confusing at the moment. There have been some suggestions that he would prefer joining Chelsea, over Manchester United, if he did end up leaving Barcelona this summer, although his first choice is believed to be staying put at Camp Nou.

It remains to be seen how things unfold in this transfer saga moving forward, but it would be smart for Manchester United to have an eye on alternative targets as well.
