The Manchester United headlines have been dominated by Cristiano Ronaldo over the past few days. It had looked like the Portuguese superstar was set to stay on at Old Trafford this season and try to take the club back to the top of English football. But now, it appears that he is very much intent on finding a way out of the club.

Ronaldo has not featured for Manchester United in pre-season till now and has been linked with a wide number of clubs in recent weeks.

The likes of Bayern Munich, Chelsea, PSG and Real Madrid had been touted as possible destinations for Ronaldo, but those moves do not seem to be on the cards. And now, it looks like another club could be out of the running in the race for his signature.

Ronaldo had been surprisingly linked with a move to Atletico Madrid recently and it was starting to look like his most likely destination. Such a move would raise questions about his legacy with Real Madrid, a club where he won four Champions League titles. But now, it appears that the rumours involving Diego Simeone’s side are wide of the mark.

Ronaldo’s Manchester United future takes another twist

As reported by the Mirror, Atletico Madrid president, Enrique Cerezo, told El Partidazo de COPE:

"“I don’t know who invented the story of [Ronaldo], but it’s practically impossible for him to come to Atlético de Madrid.”"

Thus, it looks like another club are not going to make a move for Ronaldo. And as more and more clubs continue to be ruled out of the running to sign him, it looks like the Portuguese legend might have to end up staying at Manchester United for the season.

Ronaldo leaving would be a massive blow for Manchester United. While he had his fair share of critics last season, he still finished as the club’s top scorer for the campaign. The Red Devils do not seem to have another consistent goalscorer in their ranks right now.
