Manchester United have made three additions to their squad this summer till now, bringing in Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen. All three could prove to be smart additions for the club as they play in positions where reinforcements were needed. Yet, there is still need for a lot more work over the coming weeks in terms of strengthening the squad.

Despite the very promising performances in pre-season, one must remember that this is a Manchester United side that has not won a single trophy in five seasons now. On top of that, they have seen players like Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard and others leave this summer.

As a result, more signings are needed if they are to compete for titles this season under the management of Erik ten Hag.

Fortunately, it looks like Ten Hag himself recognises that as well. As reported by Forbes, the Manchester United manager said about the situation during a press conference:

"“We signed Eriksen for the midfield department, so we are really happy with that.”“And yes, I am really happy also with our performances of our midfield department and offensive department at this moment.”“But I also know about this season, it’s a lot of games, the World Cup, so we need more options where you have a good team, and it’s not only about the team, you need a good squad to get the right results at the end of the season.”“So we have to strengthen the squad even more and we are looking around but we also need the right players.”"

Promisingly, Manchester United continue to be linked with a number of top players right now. One of them is Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona.

The situation of the Dutch midfielder is confusing though. While Barcelona are rumoured to be open to letting him go, it looks like De Jong himself is not keen to move to Old Trafford and wants to remain at Camp Nou instead. Let’s see how things play out from here and whether this transfer saga drags on.

On the other hand, another player that Manchester United have been linked with recently is Antony, who shined in domestic competitions and Europe, under the management of Ten Hag at Ajax. The Brazilian could add a different dimension to the Red Devils’ options in forward positions.
