Manchester United are a team in need of reinforcements all over the pitch. The club have had a decent summer transfer window till now, having made three signings: Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. But they are not expected to stop there, as they look to make Erik ten Hag’s run as manager a success.

Thus, it is only natural that Manchester United have been linked with a number of players from Ajax, who shined under the management of Ten Hag.

Antony is one such player. He was exception last season in both domestic competitions and the UEFA Champions League. But it is believed that Ajax want a huge transfer fee to let him leave, which has made things difficult for Manchester United.

There were suggestions that the Red Devils were no longer in the race to sign Antony but that might not be the case though. As reported by talkSPORT, while talking on White and Jordan, transfer insider Alex Crook said:

"“I’ve been getting some information about a player we’ve spoken about before, Antony at Ajax.“There have been a lot of reports that Manchester United’s interest in him is over. I was under the impression last week that a move for him would only be a target if Cristiano Ronaldo was to leave.“That may not be the case.“I’ve had some information from a very reliable source that Manchester United are still very much looking to bring Antony to the Premier League.“Erik ten Hag is a big admirer of his qualities and believes he can add something to his Manchester United rebuild.“They haven’t got a specific price yet, but the price discussed over in Holland is 70million euros, or a little bit less than that.“But the message I’ve been given is that Antony to Manchester United is very much still on and therefore one to keep an eye on during the remainder of the transfer window.”"

Manchester United are still in the race to sign Antony from Ajax

It goes without saying that Antony could add a lot to this Manchester United. Despite having a galore of big names in their squad, like Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and others, we saw the Red Devils struggle going forward last season.

Thus, someone like Antony could end up adding another dimension to this Manchester United attack, even though €70 million is a huge transfer fee to shell out for a Brazilian winger who has never played in one of the top five European leagues.

It remains to be seen how things transpire in the Antony to Manchester United transfer saga over the coming days and weeks.

In this respect, it must be pointed out that Anthony Martial is currently enjoying a brilliant pre-season and could very well have played his way into Ten Hag’s plans.
