This is a new era for Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag now the manager of the club. The Dutchman will be looking to succeed where the likes of Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal, David Moyes, Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have failed before him, and that is to take the Red Devils back to the top of the game.

Since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, Manchester United have struggled to hit the heights that they did under the management of the legendary Scotsman.

Ten Hag comes with a big reputation from his spell at Ajax, who dominant Dutch football and even reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League under his management. Manchester United could prove to be a whole different ball game though.

The club have not won a single piece of silverware in five straight seasons now and only managed to finish 6th in the Premier League last season. Thus, it is safe to say that Ten Hag has his work cut out for him.

Ten Hag has held private talks with Manchester United legend

Ten Hag has admitted that he has spoken to Sir Alex since he has been at Manchester United. As reported by ESPN, the Dutch manager said:

"“I had contact with him, but what we spoke about is private.”"

Advice from someone like Sir Alex could come in very handy for Ten Hag, who has never managed a top flight club outside of the Netherlands before this. It goes without saying that Old Trafford is a tough place to start.

It does feel like he is already starting to make an impression though and Manchester United have been superb in pre-season till now. The club have also signed Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez. Now, it remains to be seen how they perform when the season starts and the pressure is on to produce results.
