Manchester United made a spectacular start to pre-season by beating Liverpool 4-0. It was a better result than any fan could have expected and as a result, the excitement around Erik ten Hag’s side is already starting to build up. Let’s see how far the Dutch manager is able to take them this season.

One must not forget though that the result was in a pre-season friendly and thus, it is best to take it with a pinch of salt. This Manchester United squad has a long way to go before they can compete with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

If they are to challenge those two, they will need to make some big additions this summer and one player that they have been linked with in recent times is Serge Gnabry of Bayern Munich. But they do not seem to be only team chasing the German international’s signature.

As reported by The Telegraph, Chelsea are eyeing a swoop for Gnabry as a Raphinha alternative. The Leeds United star is closing in on a big move to Barcelona this summer.

Both Manchester United and Chelsea are kind of in the same situation this summer. Both of them need to strengthen their squads significantly if they are to stay up with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.

Till now though, both the Red Devils and the Blues have been able to complete one move each, Tyrell Malacia and Raheem Sterling respectively. Now, it remains to be seen where things go from here.

Someone like Gnabry could be an exceptional signing for either club and it is believed that Bayern Munich could be open to letting him go for a transfer fee around €40 million, with the player in the final year of his contract with the Bundesliga champions.
