Manchester United have been linked with a series of Ajax stars, present and former, ever since the arrival of Erik ten Hag as the club’s manager. They have been most heavily linked with Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona, who had played a key role in the Dutch side’s run to the Champions League semi-finals some years back. On the other hand, when it comes to the current side, the names of Jurrien Timber, Lisandro Martinez and Antony has been brought up often.

Manchester United do need to improve their options going forward and as a result, it looks like they are stepping up their chase for Antony.

As reported by GOAL, Manchester United have offered a transfer fee around €60 million (£51 million) for Antony but the Dutch side appear to be holding out for a fee around €80 million (£68 million).

It is believed that Antony is keen on making a move to the Premier League but it is pretty clear that there is still quite a gap between what Manchester United are offering and Ajax are looking for, for the Brazilian star.

Manchester United have made transfer bid for Ajax star but the club are looking for a higher offer

It is safe to say that Antony was one of the standout performers for Ajax last season. Not only did he impress in domestic competitions in the Netherlands, but he made an impression as well in the Champions League.

Thus, it is not hard to see why he has caught the eye of clubs around Europe but it is pretty clear that Ajax are not ready to let him leave unless they get the kind of offer that they are looking for, and that has made negotiations difficult.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Antony scored 12 goals and provided 10 assists in 33 appearances last season.
