It is never quiet around Cristiano Ronaldo and this summer, it looks like he could be looking to make a Manchester United exit. It has only been a season since he made a sensational return to the Theatre of Dreams and back then, it had looked his arrival had turned the Red Devils back into Premier League contenders. What unfolded over the course of the 2021/22 campaign was very different.

Manchester United finished trophyless for the fifth straight season and could not even qualify for the Champions League, underwhelming in every competition that they were in. While Ronaldo did put up respectable numbers, his performances did leave a lot to be desired and many even questioned whether his introduction had had a negative impact on the team as a whole.

Now, it looks like Ronaldo could be looking to leave Manchester United and one of the clubs who have been linked with the Portuguese legend are Chelsea.

As reported by ESPN, Chelsea have been told that Ronaldo could be willing to join the Blues, but they are yet to decide whether to make a formal offer.

Ronaldo is open to joining Manchester United’s Premier League rivals

During Ronaldo’s first stint at Old Trafford, Chelsea were Manchester United’s main rivals. The two sides competed in several Premier League title races and even in an incredible Champions League final. Could we see the Portuguese legend end up at Stamford Bridge though?

Chelsea have undergone a change in ownership recently and could be looking to make a statement this summer. And signing someone like Ronaldo could very well be that.

It is believed that a lot depends on Thomas Tuchel though and what he wants to do, as the new owners are fully backing the German manager. And it is unclear whether he thinks Ronaldo, who is 37 years of age, would fit into his system or not.
