Manchester United were expected to come out of the gates firing on all cylinders in the summer transfer window but that has not happened till now. The club have been linked with a number of players from all over Europe but no signings have been made till now. That could end up changing soon as it looks like the Red Devils are closing in on the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era.

Ten Hag has a massive job on his hands and if he is to have any chance of succeeding, the club will need to back him in the summer transfer window.

It appears that Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Netherlands international left-back, Tyrell Malacia, who currently plays for Feyenoord.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United and Malacia’s agents are now in direct contact in order to discuss agreement on personal terms and there is a positive feeling that the deal can be done, with Feyenoord set to receive €15 million plus €2 million in add-ons:

Left-back has been an area of worry for Manchester United in recent times. Luke Shaw had been in incredible form during the course of the 2020/21 season and it had looked like he was set to be the long-term option there for the foreseeable future.

His form has taken a significant dip in recent times though. On the other hand, there are question marks over whether Alex Telles can be the long-term solution for the club at left-back.

Thus, someone like Malacia could be a solid addition to this Manchester United side. While he might be just 22 years of age, he has significant experience at the senior level already, having made his professional debut for Feyenoord back in 2017. He has also made multiple appearances for the Dutch national team.
