Cristiano Ronaldo got a hero’s welcome at Old Trafford, when he completed a move to the club where he first made a name for himself, last summer. Back then, there were hopes that he would be able to transform Manchester United into Premier League title contenders once again, but it is safe to say that things have not gone quite that way.

After a bright start to the season, the wheels came off Manchester United’s season and they were not able to put them back on, despite a change in the managerial hot seat, replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Now, Manchester United have a new permanent manager in place in Erik ten Hag, who comes with a huge reputation from his time at Ajax.

Manchester United were expected to make a huge splash in the summer in order to give Ten Hag their backing, but till now, it has not quite worked. And that seems to have had an effect on Ronaldo as well.

Ronaldo unhappy with Manchester United’s inactivity this summer

As reported by The Sun, Ronaldo is understood to be frustrated by the lack of transfer action.

Interestingly, the player has been linked with a move away from Manchester United recently as well, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich being the two clubs who have been touted as potential destinations for the Portuguese legend.

It is hard to see him leaving the Theatre of Dreams this summer though. But then, never say never in football. It had been hard to see him leave Juventus last summer as well and that did happen.

Whether Ronaldo stays or leaves, one thing that is for certain is that Manchester United need to improve their squad significantly over this summer transfer window if Ten Hag is to have any chance of succeeding as the manager of the Red Devils this season.
