Manchester United need to strengthen all over the pitch, as they look to return to the top of English football. They have not won a single trophy over the past five seasons. Thus, it is safe to say that Erik ten Hag has a huge task on his hands, after taking the Old Trafford managerial job.

Ten Hag has a fantastic track record from his time as the manager of Ajax. He guided the Dutch club to the Champions League semi-finals against all odds. And under his management, they also re-established themselves as the dominant team in the Netherlands.

Manchester United are expected to be a whole different ball game though and it remains to be seen if Ten Hag is able to make the adjustment, as he has never managed a top flight club outside of the Netherlands till now.

Manchester United do need to give him the best chance of success, by signing some top quality players this summer. They have been heavily linked with Frenkie de Jong recently and now, it looks like they have their eyes on another Ten Hag reunion.

Massive De Ligt to Manchester United transfer claim made

As reported by CalcioMercato, both Manchester United and Manchester City have taken their first concrete steps with the Matthijs de Ligt’s entourage. Neither have made first official offers yet. And Juventus are believed to be looking for transfer fees more than €70 million for the Dutchman.

De Ligt had broken out as a star under the management of Ten Hag, during that incredible season for Ajax, when they reached the final four of Europe’s elite competition.

Since then, De Ligt has moved to Juventus and his development has not gone as one would have hoped for, as it has coincided with the Italian giants’ decline over the past couple of seasons. Thus, a reunion with Ten Hag would definitely be an interesting one to consider.
