Manchester United’s squad needs to undergo a transformation under Erik ten Hag. Signing new players just won’t be enough. They also need to let those go who are not making a positive contribution to the team and freshen things up. This is a side that has not won a trophy in five seasons now, something that would have been unthinkable during the time of Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Not many Manchester United players shined in what was a disaster of a 2021/22 campaign. But even then, one man who has struggled to make much of a difference over the past couple of years now is Anthony Martial.

Martial spent the first half of the season with Manchester United before heading to Sevilla on loan in January. He did not impress at either spell though. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored just 2 goals last season, one for each club.

And as reported by The Telegraph (via Caught Offside), Manchester United are hoping to let the Frenchman go this summer.

When Manchester United signed Martial back in the summer of 2015, there were hopes that he was destined to be the best player on the planet one day and compete for the Ballon d’Or in the future.

Martial made a fantastic start at Manchester United and while his performance levels would dip, he was at least a steady performer for his first five seasons at Old Trafford, and even finished as their top scorer in the 2019/20 season.

Things have gone badly downhill since then though and over the past couple of seasons, he has looked like a shadow of the player that he once was.

And with it looking unlikely that he will be a regular starter for Manchester United in the near future unless things change drastically under the management of Ten Hag, it might be time for the club and the player to part ways.
