Manchester United will need to make some major additions to their squad over the course of the summer. The club failed to qualify for the Champions League and have not won a single piece of silverware in five years now. This is not a position that the Red Devils should be in and change is needed. Erik ten Hag is the man who has been trusted to be the catalyst of that change.

The Dutchman has a fantastic record from his time with Ajax but it is safe to say that it would be a whole different ball game, taking this Manchester United side back to the top.

One thing that the club must definitely do this summer is make quality signings. They have been heavily linked with Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong in recent times, but a player from their eternal rivals, Real Madrid, also seems to be in the sights of Manchester United.

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Marco Asensio has offers from abroad, with Manchester United and Juventus in the lead.

Manchester United are in the lead for Real Madrid star

Asensio has been one of the most highly rated players at Real Madrid for years now and burst onto the scene several years back. It had looked like he was destined to be one of their biggest stars back then.

The Spaniard has not been able to develop at that level though and so many years later, is still struggling to find himself a regular spot in the starting XI.

Thus, a move away from Real Madrid might not be a bad idea for him this summer. His current deal with Los Blancos runs out in the summer of 2023, meaning it could be their last chance to get a transfer fee out of his departure.

On the other hand, while Asensio has not been a regular for Real Madrid, he has been effective when he has been given the chance and could be just the type of player that Manchester United need to make an impact.
