Both Manchester United and Chelsea are in need of a defensive rebuild this summer. For the Red Devils, it has been an area of worry for a long time. When the club signed Raphael Varane, there were hopes that he would be the solution to their problems but that has not turned out to be the case, and they have continued to struggle at the back. Thus, Erik ten Hag will surely be looking to make reinforcements in defence.

On the other hand, Chelsea have lost both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer as free agents and the future of Cesar Azpilicueta is up in the air as well, with Barcelona believed to be keeping an eye on the Spaniard. Thus, Thomas Tuchel’s side are expected to go after more than one centre-back.

It looks like both of them have a common transfer target though, in the form of Leicester City’s Wesley Fofana.

As reported by RMC Sport, Manchester United and Chelsea are closely interested in Fofana. It is expected to take a transfer fee around €80 million (£68 million) to sign him though.

Manchester United and Chelsea are both interested in the Premier League star

Fofana has been incredibly impressive during his time at Leicester City. He enjoyed a spectacular 2020/21 campaign with the Foxes but would suffer a huge setback this time around, as he broke his leg during pre-season.

Thus, it has been a long road to recovery for the defender but what has been most impressive about of all of this is the fact that he has returned from such a major injury and found his form immediately.

There is very little doubt that Fofana can be one of the best defenders in the world one day if he can remain fit. Thus, it is not hard to see why two of the biggest clubs in the world are interested in signing him.
