With Erik ten Hag arriving as the new Manchester United manager, a lot of changes are required at Old Trafford. This has been an ongoing cycle at the club since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, as they always find themselves in need of a rebuild every few years. The fans will be hoping that the Dutchman will succeed where the likes of Jose Mourinho, Louis van Gaal, David Moyes, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick have failed.
For that to happen, Manchester United will need to back him in the summer transfer window, as it is clear that reinforcements are needed in multiple areas.
One of them is defence, which has been a major worry for the Red Devils for years now. They signed Raphael Varane last summer but that has not solved their problems at the back. Instead of taking things forward, the French World Cup winner seems to have taken a step back himself.
Thus, it would not be much of a surprise if Manchester United signed another centre-back this summer and it looks like they could be closing in on a deal for Villarreal’s Pau Torres. As reported by GIVEMESPORT, transfer insider Dean Jones said:
"“I think, from what I understand, a lot of people close to Pau Torres do see this deal as one that is still gathering pace.“People close to the player say it is close and Villarreal think there’s a good chance it will happen.”"
Manchester United are closing in on Spanish international
Torres is a player that Manchester United have been linked with for quite some time now. Before they signed Varane last summer, the Villarreal star was believed to have been their top defensive target.
Now, it remains to be seen if they do end up getting a deal done for Torres this summer, who has been a standout at Villarreal and is a part of the Spanish national team picture as well.
It is believed that he could be available for a transfer fee in the range of €50 million to €60 million. Chelsea are another club who have been linked with Torres in recent times though.
