Manchester United are expected to be looking to improve their squad in multiple areas this summer, with Erik ten Hag arriving as the new manager of the club. Fans will be hoping that he succeeds where David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick have failed, and takes the Red Devils back to the top of English and European football once again.

It is pretty clear that a lot of changes are required at Manchester United for Ten Hag to have any chance of making that happen. At the end of the day, this team has not won a single trophy in five seasons now.

One of the areas that Manchester United could be looking to improve in this summer is in the forward department, both up front and on the wings. And they have been linked with a surprise name in that regard.

As reported by El Chiringuito (via Football Espana), Jorge Mendes is working to bring Marco Asensio to Manchester United.

Real Madrid star could be headed to Manchester United this summer

Asensio has been one of the most highly-rated players at Real Madrid for years now but he has never managed to have that real breakout season and turn himself into a first-team regular.

He had his best campaign in a while this time around. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Asensio scored 12 goals and provided 2 assists in 42 appearances for Real Madrid this season.

At 26 years of age though, it is time for him to make a decision about his future, as it looks unlikely that he will ever be a real first-team star at the Santiago Bernabeu. On the other hand, he would be expected to have a much better chance of doing that at Manchester United.

At this point of time, he has only one year more left on his current deal with Real Madrid. Now, it remains to be seen if Manchester United do end up making a move.

The Red Devils already signed Raphael Varane from Real Madrid last summer. Let’s see if they can repeat the trick this time around.
