Manchester United will need to rebuild their squad in alignment with the vision of Erik ten Hag if they are to have any chance of succeeding under the Dutch manager. He did a wonderful job turning Ajax into the best team in the Netherlands once again while making them competitive in the Champions League as well, but the job at Old Trafford is expected to be much more difficult.

The club have not won a single trophy in five straight seasons now and have been nowhere near their best since Sir Alex Ferguson retired back in 2013.

Thus, new signings are needed at Manchester United, especially with players like Edinson Cavani, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and some others looking set to leave the club this summer.

One player that they have been heavily linked with since the appointment of Ten Hag as manager is Frenkie de Jong. It is not hard to see why as the player-manager duo enjoyed great success during their time together at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. And while it won’t be easy to sign him from Barcelona, Manchester United seem to have some big plans.

Manchester United’s incredible plan to sign De Jong from Barcelona

The first hurdle would be to agree a transfer fee with Barcelona. But then, Manchester United will need to convince De Jong to come to Old Trafford as well, which could prove to be difficult with no Champions League football to offer.

As reported by the Daily Star, Manchester United are prepared to make De Jong their highest paid star and offer him a whopping weekly salary of £395,000.

A move could make sense for both the club and the player though, as De Jong’s career at Barcelona has not gone as one would have expected and a reunion with Ten Hag could revitalise him.
