Manchester United boost in race to sign Serie A superstar
Manchester United will need to look to replace Paul Pogba. The Frenchman looks set to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer, and as a result, the club’s midfield department could be weakened significantly. The club needs to bring someone new in the position and failure to sign someone could be bad news for next season. And that is the last thing they would want in Erik ten Hag’s first campaign as manager.
Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has been considered a great candidate to replace Pogba. The Serbian has enjoyed another stellar campaign in Italy. Many view him as the best midfielder in the Italian top flight. The 27-year-old could leave the Rome-based club this summer though.
Rumours suggest that a number of teams are after his signature. Names such as Juventus, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are believed to be the most prominent in the race to sign Sergej.
While it looks like Manchester United are yet to make a concrete offer to land the midfield maestro, they have been handed some hope that a deal could be done this summer.

As tweeted out by Jonathan Shrager, Lazio have not received any offer from Manchester United for Sergej yet. But the Italian club would be prepared to let the midfielder go for a transfer fee in the range of €60 million plus.
Sergej’s current contract at Lazio is believed to run until the summer of 2024, but it looks like the Serbian could be on his way out this summer itself.
Manchester United have been linked with Sergej for years but their failed attempt to qualify for next season’s Champions League campaign could prove to be a hurdle in any potential attempt to sign the midfielder. Thus, it is possible that they might have to turn their eyes elsewhere.
