Erik ten Hag is expected to ring in a number of changes at Manchester United. The Dutch manager will have his work cut out for him as this side has not won a single trophy over the past five seasons, something that would have unthinkable at one point of time. Thus, expect the squad to look very different next season, with several incomings and outgoings taking place if things go according to plan.

Players like Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard and a few others are believed to be on their way out of Old Trafford while the club continue to be linked with several big names as potential summer transfer targets.

David de Gea is someone who is expected to stay after enjoying an impressive season despite those around him failing to deliver. The Spaniard has been one of Manchester United’s best players in recent times but he could have some adjusting to do in Ten Hag’s system.

As reported by the Daily Star, Ten Hag has held talks with De Gea over how he likes his goalkeepers to play out from the back. This has never been one of the Spanish star’s strengths but he has been told that it will be essential.

De Gea could face a problem in Ten Hag’s Manchester United team

If De Gea does not fit into Ten Hag’s system of football, Manchester United have Dean Henderson as a back up option as well.

Henderson is believed to be looking for a way out of the club though as he has barely featured this season. He had gotten ahead of the Spaniard in the pecking order in the second half of last season but has fallen behind once again this time around.

While De Gea has shown this season that he remains an excellent shot stopper, playing with the ball at his feet has never been an area of strength for the long-time Manchester United goalkeeper. Thus, there could be some doubt about his place in Ten Hag’s team.
