Darwin Nunez makes Manchester United transfer decision
Manchester United will be in search of a striker this summer. While the club are expected to hold on to Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani is headed out of Old Trafford. The futures of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are pretty much up in the air at the moment. On top of that, the Portuguese superstar’s return to the club has not gone as he would have expected, as they are set to finish outside of the top six and without a trophy for the fifth straight season.
While Ronaldo has shown glimpses of what he is still capable of, on a consistent basis, he has not been able to produce the goods either. Thus, the club do need to bring in a top class striker.
One of the names that Manchester United have been linked with heavily is Darwin Nunez. The Benfica star has had a tremendous season and established himself as one of the most exciting young strikers in all of Europe.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, Nunez has scored 34 goals and provided 4 assists in 41 appearances for Benfica. This has included goals against the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Thus, Manchester United are one of the clubs believed to be looking to sign him. But there might be some bad news for the Red Devils in that regard.
Nunez makes Manchester United transfer decision
As reported by RMC Sport, Manchester United would be ready to shell out €80 million in transfer fees to sign Nunez but the prospect of not playing in the Champions League is holding back the player, who has turned down the club.
As a result, it does not look like a move to Manchester United is on the cards for Nunez. The Red Devils have no way left of qualifying for the Champions League.
And that could turn out to be a major problem when they try to sign other players over the summer as well, as most are expected to be keen on playing for a side in the Champions League.
