Erik ten Hag is expected to look to rebuild Manchester United’s squad all over the pitch after they have underwhelmed for five straight seasons, not winning a single piece of silverware. The Red Devils’ last trophy came during the time of Jose Mourinho as manager. Thus, it safe to say that changes are required at Old Trafford.

Left-back could be an area where Ten Hag looks to improve in. It had looked like Luke Shaw had unlocked a different level to his game in the 2020/21 campaign but he has taken several steps back this season. On the other hand, Alex Telles has never quite been able to establish himself as the first-choice left-back at the club.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Ten Hag wants to bring VfB Stuttgart’s Borna Sosa to Manchester United.

On the other hand, as tweeted out by Christian Falk, Chelsea have Sosa on their transfer list if Barcelona are able to get a deal done for Marcos Alonso. Thus, it looks like the two Premier League giants could end up competing for the signature of the VfB Stuttgart left-back.

Manchester United and Chelsea in race to sign VfB Stuttgart left-back this summer

Sosa has been linked with Chelsea for a while now and it is believed that it would take a transfer fee around £25 million to bring him to the Premier League.

Sosa is an excellent left-back, especially going forward and has even drawn comparisons with David Beckham over the years for his delivery.

Thus, if Manchester United are able to sign Sosa, it has the potential to be an excellent signing for them but it is safe to say that it would not be easy to pull off.

Sosa enjoyed an excellent 2021/22 campaign. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 2 goals and provided 9 assists in 30 appearances for VfB Stuttgart.
