Manchester United are heading towards arguably their most important transfer window since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. It has been a steady decline for the club since then and they have finished five straight seasons without a trophy now. But finally, there seems to be some positivity around the club as Erik ten Hag is set to be the new manager of the Red Devils.

Ten Hag did an incredible job at Ajax, re-establishing them as the top club in the Netherlands while also guiding them to some big European campaigns, including a run to the Champions League semi-finals a few years back.

Manchester United fans will be hoping that he can repeat those heroics at Old Trafford as well but the first thing that the club needs to do is rebuild their squad.

One particular area that needs immediate attention is their midfield, with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic looking set to depart in the summer. And as reported by Noi Biancocelesti, Manchester United are ready to make a £68 million transfer bid for Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Milinkovic-Savic has been one of the best midfielders in the Serie A for years and has continuously been linked with a move to the Premier League but it has not materialised till now, as he has stayed on at Lazio.

That could potentially change this summer though as it is believed that Maurizio Sarri would be open to the idea of letting the midfielder go and rebuild his squad. On the other hand, the player will know he will not have too many more chances to get a big move in his career. He is already 27 years of age and no longer the youngster he was when he first burst onto the scene.

If Manchester United are able to sign Milinkovic-Savic, it would be a huge coup. He has been a shining light for Lazio for a long time. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 10 goals and provided 12 assists this season.
