Manchester United could find themselves in search of a new striker in the summer. The future of Anthony Martial is up in the air while Edinson Cavani is expected to leave when his contract runs out at the end of the season. On the other hand, while Cristiano Ronaldo has been impressive lately, for a major part of the season, the Portuguese legend did struggle. Also, he is 37 years of age.

Thus, do not be surprised to see Manchester United go after another striker in the summer and one of the most interesting names that they have been linked with is Darwin Nunez.

Nunez has been spectacular this season for Benfica, both in Portugal and in Europe, and it is hard to see the Uruguayan international remain at the club beyond this campaign. Manchester United are one of the clubs believed to be interested in signing him.

It looks like the Red Devils have been handed a boost in the race to sign Nunez as well. As reported by Bild (via GOAL), Bayern Munich are out of the race to sign the Benfica star as he is believed to be too expensive for the Bundesliga champions with the Portuguese club expected to look for a transfer fee between €70 million and €80 million for the striker.

Manchester United boost as Bayern Munich out of race to sign Nunez

It goes without saying that this is a boost for Manchester United. The lesser the competition for Nunez’s signature, the higher their chances of getting a deal done for him.

But at the same time, it is going take a huge transfer fee for even Manchester United, to sign the Uruguayan. And initially, there are going to be questions raised about whether he can get it done in the Premier League or not.

What we do know is that he can get it done in Europe, having scored against some of the biggest clubs in the world this season, including Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Thus, the sky is the limit when it comes to Nunez’s potential.
