When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was shown the exit door and Ralf Rangnick arrived as the interim manager of Manchester United, there were a lot of hopes and expectations surrounding the move. The German had made a reputation for himself as one of the most important figures in modern day management and been considered an inspiration for the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Thomas Tuchel and Julian Nagelsmann to name a few.

It is safe to say that things have not turned out as the Manchester United fans would have been hoping for. There was not been an incredible difference when it comes to results for the Red Devils and Liverpool handed them a 4-0 defeat at Anfield today.

It is safe to say that this would be a hard pill to swallow for everyone associated with Manchester United and a huge blow for their hopes to finish in the top four of the Premier League and qualify for the Champions League.

After the game, Rangnick has rued the performance and gone on to admit that Liverpool are simply better. As reported by the Independent, the Manchester United interim manager said:

"“It is embarrassing, it is disappointing, maybe even humiliating.“We have to accept they are six years ahead of us now. For us it is extremely embarrassing. We just have to admit they are better than us.”"

Rangnick makes admission after Liverpool beat Manchester United 4-0

The previous game between the two sides had ended 5-0 in favour of Liverpool, at Old Trafford meaning that on aggregate, the Merseyside club have beaten Manchester United 9-0 over their two Premier League fixtures this season.

That would have been absolutely unthinkable even a few years back but that is just the reality of the situation right now. Liverpool are one of the best teams in the world, if not the very best, and Manchester United are struggling to hang with them.

Changes are expected at the club over the summer including the arrival of a new manager, with Erik ten Hag the heavy favourite to get the Old Trafford job.
