There are several changes required at Manchester United, as they have endured another disappointing campaign and things cannot simply continue in the manner that they have. The Red Devils are set to finish trophyless for the fifth straight season. That is something which would have been absolutely unthinkable around a decade ago but is very much a reality today.

The biggest change that the club can make at this point of time is bring in a new manager. Ralf Rangnick was appointed as the interim manager after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was shown the exit door but he has not been able to get a tune out of this side.

Several names have been linked with the Manchester United job over the course of the past few months as it is absolutely necessary that they get this appointment right. And now, it looks like an appointment might not be far away.

As reported by The Athletic, Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle with Erik ten Hag to be the club’s next permanent manager and it is believed to be a verbal agreement.

Why Ten Hag could be the right choice for Manchester United

Ten Hag has enjoyed a wonderful run as the manager of Ajax till now and during his time at the club, they have re-established themselves as the best team in the Eredivisie. But even more impressive have been their performances in Europe, where they have more than held their own.

Ten Hag was the mastermind behind Ajax’s run to the UEFA Champions League semi-finals a few years back, when they were knocked out by Tottenham Hotspur, while being minutes away from reaching the final. This season, the Dutch giants impressed in Europe as well before being surprisingly knocked out by Benfica in the Round of 16.

But then, there will be some worries surrounding Ten Hag as well. He has never managed at a top flight club outside of the Netherlands and the Manchester United job, at this stage, might be the most difficult in the world. Thus, if he ends up at Old Trafford, it will be very interesting to see how he does.
