Former Manchester United star could make return as coach
Changes are expected to take place at Manchester United this summer and they are needed as well. The club find themselves in a terrible spot right now. The Red Devils are set to finish their fifth straight season without a single piece of silverware and this time around, they appear to have taken major steps backward despite having signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane last summer.
While the squad clearly needs refreshing, the first thing that Manchester United need to do is bring in a permanent manager. Ralf Rangnick’s interim run will come to an end at the end of this campaign.
Erik ten Hag has emerged as the favourite to get the Manchester United job in recent weeks, although a deal is not over the line yet.
And as reported by the Daily Mail, Robin van Persie is being lined up as a potential coaching assistant for the Dutch manager. The former Manchester United star is currently coaching at Feyenoord.
Van Persie could get Manchester United coaching role if Ten Hag is appointed
Van Persie was the last great signing that Sir Alex Ferguson ever made and he played a huge part in Manchester United’s last Premier League title win till date.
It is only recently that he has moved into coaching, having retired from the game back in 2019 at Feyenoord.
Of course, it remains to be seen if Ten Hag ends up being appointed as the Manchester United manager. If he does end up in the Old Trafford hot seat, it could be a major coup on the part of the club.
Ten Hag has done a magnificent job during his time as Ajax manager, establishing them as the dominant team in the Eredivisie once again while enjoying some incredible campaigns in Europe as well, even reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals a few years back.
