Several players appear to be nearing a transfer away from Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window. The list of potential exits includes players such as Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani and Juan Mata. Thus, it is safe to say that the squad could end up looking very different next season.

One of the most interesting futures is that of Mata. There have been several rumours of the Spaniard being interested in a move back to La Liga. But that is predictable. Could the long-time Premier League star end up taking a different challenge though?

In a team struggling to produce both performances and results, Mata has not got enough playing time this season. And even when he has been on the pitch, he has not made a huge impact.

As reported by ESPN, several clubs from Ligue 1, Serie A and La Liga are all interested in Mata and it looks like a return to Spain is not a priority for the Spaniard and he would like to explore other opportunities.

There is heavy interest in the Manchester United veteran

Inter Milan, AC Milan, Real Sociedad, Valencia and several other clubs have all been rumoured with an interest in signing Mata in the summer transfer window, with the Spaniard likely to leave as a free agent.

Mata’s current contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer. And if he does leave, it will mark an end to his eight-year-plus career in the red half of Manchester. Mata has won one UEFA Europa League, one FA Cup, one League Cup, and a Community Shield with the Red Devils during that period of time.

But one has to feel that he never quite reached his full potential at Manchester United, and his best football came in a Chelsea shirt, as he won the Champions League, Europa League and FA Cup for The Blues.
