Manchester United have a number of talented prospects in their ranks, who are not in a position to get regular minutes in the first-team. Therefore, ensuring appropriate loan moves for these youngsters is a massive responsibility for the club as well.  One such player is Tahith Chong, the winner of the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year in 2018.

Having failed to break into the first-team picture at Manchester United on a consistent basis, Chong left the club for his first loan spell, to Werder Bremen, in the summer of 2020. In Germany, he did not develop as expected though.

Manchester United called him back in the middle of the season and then loaned him to Club Brugge in January of 2021. He spent the rest of the season there before being sent on another loan spell, this time to Birmingham City last summer.

Chong made an impressive start to life at Birmingham City but luck did not favour him as he would pick up an injury. A surgery led to him spending several months on the sidelines but he is now fit again, and back at the Championship club.

Birmingham City wants Manchester United youngster on another loan spell

As reported by the Mirror, Birmingham City want Chong back on loan next season and will ask Manchester United if they will send him to St Andrew’s again to build up his experience at the senior level.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Chong has played 19 matches in the Championship this season, scoring a goal and providing 3 assists in the process.

Interestingly, Manchester United have recently taken up the option to extend Chong’s current deal at Old Trafford, as he was approaching the last few months of his contract with the club. Once one of the most highly-rated youngsters at Old Trafford, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
