One of Manchester United’s biggest problems this season has been the lack of a consistent goalscorer up top. That is a huge statement considering the fact that the Red Devils have Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani in their ranks, but unfortunately, neither of the two have been at their best through the course of the campaign. Could Darwin Nunez be the solution?

Ronaldo had enjoyed a brilliant start to his second stint at Manchester United but has faded away considerably since then, and does not look like the player that he once was.

On the other hand, while Cavani enjoyed a lot of success while playing for Manchester United last season, this time around, he has struggled with both form and fitness.

Thus, it would not be a surprise if Manchester United did end up signing a striker in the summer, especially with Cavani expected to depart Old Trafford, and one player that they must definitely try to sign is Benfica’s Nunez.

Manchester United must try to sign Darwin Nunez from Benfica

Nunez has been an absolute standout for Benfica this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 28 goals and provided 3 assists in 35 appearances for Benfica this season across all competitions.

Most impressive though is Nunez’s ability to rise up to the occasion. He scored against both Barcelona and Bayern Munich in the Champions League group stage. He also scored the goal against Ajax that sent Benfica into the quarter-finals and found the back of the net against Liverpool as well.

Also, Nunez is still just 22 years of age. Thus, it looks like the sky is the limit for the Uruguayan international.

Nunez was rated at a transfer fee around €60 million in January but recent rumours have suggested that Benfica will look for a figure closer to €80 million in the summer. Of course, there are several other interesting names that Manchester United are also being linked.
