Manchester United’s current situation is no secret, with the club now going five seasons without a trophy. The Red Devils last won one under the management of Jose Mourinho in the form of the UEFA Europa League. But it has been all doom and gloom since then and it is clear that change is needed at Old Trafford, both on the pitch and in the dugout.
The club must be desperate for silverware at this point and are expected to be ready to make some big moves next summer, with another potential squad rebuild on the way.
The defensive department of Manchester United has been seen as a point of vulnerability for quite some time. Despite bringing in a superstar like Raphael Varane last summer, the club have not improved a lot at the back. Furthermore, there are question marks over the futures of Eric Bailly and Phil Jones at Old Trafford.
Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo is believed to be a transfer target for Manchester United. Rumours have suggested that the scouts have been monitoring the 23-year-old centre-back for a long time. His current deal with the La Liga giants runs out in the summer of 2023.
Sergio Busquets advises the Manchester United target not to leave Barcelona
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets advised the likes of Gavi and Ronald Araujo not to leave the club, as he told Esports RAC1:
"“Who leaves Barcelona will regret it.”"
Araujo has been in fantastic form for Barcelona this season, with the defender equally impressing fans with his attacking prowess as well as with his defensive attributes. But his current contract situation means that his long-term future at Camp Nou is in doubt.
The defender’s current deal expires in the summer of 2023. And till now, an extension has not been agreed yet. It is believed that Manchester United are one of the clubs keeping an eye on the situation.
