Manchester United are understandably expected to undergo a massive overhaul next summer. Apart from making a new permanent managerial appointment, the Red Devils will reportedly let some players leave at the end of the season as well. Dean Henderson appears to be one, who could be on his way out of Old Trafford soon.

Before returning to Manchester United, Henderson had enjoyed two outstanding campaigns on loan at Sheffield United. The Englishman helped The Blades secure promotion to the Premier League.

Seeing Henderson’s development, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deemed him as David de Gea’s direct competitor for that number 1 spot between the posts for the club.

In his first season back, Henderson played a reasonable amount of football, especially in the second half of the campaign, when he had moved ahead of De Gea in the pecking order. But despite that, the Englishman has not gotten a lot of playing time this season, with the Spaniard back in top form.

Manchester United uncertain of Henderson’s future at Old Trafford

Manchester United appear to be uncertain of what to do with Henderson next summer. But as tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United have an interest in the English international since last January and the Red Devils will make a decision about him in the summer:

As things stand, Henderson does not look close to a starting spot, although several rumours have suggested that Manchester United are considering parting ways with De Gea.

On the other hand, it is also believed that The Red Devils have kept a firm eye on the developments around Sam Johnstone, who appears to be a potential target for the backup goalkeeping spot in Manchester United’s squad, if Henderson was to leave.

Nothing seems certain at this point and let’s see how things unfold over the coming weeks and months.
