Manchester United want goalkeeper to make Old Trafford return
Manchester United need to strengthen all over the pitch in the summer. There were high expectations coming into the season, when the Red Devils signed superstars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho. The results have been disappointing though and they are almost certain to go trophyless for the fifth straight season. A decade ago, this kind of a spell would have been unthinkable at Old Trafford.
Thus, the club are expected to bring in a new permanent manager and sign multiple players in the summer. But, at the same time, there are several who could be headed the other way.
Dean Henderson is one such player, who has struggled for playing time this season and appears to be looking for a move away from Manchester United when the transfer window reopens.
On the other hand, the club appear to have their own plans as well. As reported by 90min, Manchester United plan to hold talks with Sam Johnstone. There is a possibility that he could return to the club as David de Gea’s understudy.
Manchester United plan to hold talks over Johnstone return
Johnstone had come through the youth ranks at Manchester United but never made a mark in the senior team, despite spending years at the club.
He would end up joining West Bromwich Albion, where he has impressed immensely and now, it looks like a potential return to Manchester United could be on the cards.
If that does happen, it would open the doors for Henderson to depart the club. There were high hopes that the Englishman could become the long-term number one at Old Trafford after De Gea and for a while, he had moved ahead of the Spaniard in the pecking order as well.
But this season, he has had to spent the majority of his time on the bench, with De Gea in brilliant form and as a result, a summer exit for Henderson seems likely.
