Manchester United must know by now that they need to bolster their defensive department in the upcoming summer transfer window. Despite signing Raphael Varane from Real Madrid at the start of the 2021/22 campaign, the Red Devils’ defence has not made any significant improvement. But it is not just down to the Frenchman, who has been been solid even if a bit underwhelming.

At the heart of defence, Harry Maguire has struggled. And while Victor Lindelof has looked decent, it is hard to imagine him being a Manchester United starting centre-back for the foreseeable future. Furthermore, the lack of chances for Eric Bailly and Phil Jones might lead to both the experienced campaigners leaving in the summer.

Considering the situation at the club, the Red Devils might have to bring in another defender next summer. And a wide variety of names have already gotten linked with a move to Old Trafford.

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Get Italian Football News), Inter Milan are very interested in Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, and view him as a potential replacement for Stefan de Vrij. But Manchester United are scouting the defender as well.

Manchester United are scouting Fiorentina’s Milenkovic

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Milenkovic for a long, long time. This season, the Serbian has impressed once again.

There have been suggestions that a transfer fee in the region of €15million might be enough to sign the defender. That is not steep in the modern footballing transfer market.

Thus, there is expected to be significant interest if Milenkovic was to leave Fiorentina, from clubs other than Inter Milan and Manchester United as well.

While he has the potential to be a solid addition for the Red Devils, is he someone who is the solution to their issues at the back?
