Erik ten Hag is one of the managers who has been most heavily linked with the Manchester United job in recent weeks. After the Red Devils were knocked out of the Champions League Round of 16 by Atletico Madrid, they look set to finish their fifth straight season without a trophy. It is safe to say that the situation is far from ideal for them and changes are required at Old Trafford.
The biggest of those changes is expected to come in the managerial hot seat. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was shown the exit door earlier in the season and Ralf Rangnick was brought in as the interim manager, but the German coach has not had the impact that one would have expected.
Thus, he looks set to move on to a consultancy role at the end of the campaign. And it remains to be seen who Manchester United’s next permanent manager turns out to be.
There have been a lot of rumours surrounding Ten Hag recently, with some even suggesting that he is learning English with an eye on a move to the Premier League. But as reported by Metro, in a video tweeted out by Football on BT Sport, the Ajax manager said:
"‘No, that (report) is not true!‘We (already) talk English at the club because there are a lot of foreign players in Holland and they are already educated in English so (it makes sense).’"
When asked about his future, Ten Hag said:
"‘I do not think that is an issue today, this evening is all about our match.‘I am focused on that and I do not pay any attention to other subjects. My only focus is Ajax vs Benfica.’"
Ten Hag breaks silence amid Manchester United rumours
Ajax would end up being knocked out from the Champions League themselves, at the hands of Benfica, which was a bit of a surprise considering how well the Dutch side had played this season in Europe.
But Ten Hag remains one of the most exciting managers in the game right now and if Manchester United are able to appoint him, it would be considered as a major coup on the part of the club.
It must be pointed out though that the likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Carlo Ancelotti, Brendan Rodgers, Luis Enrique and several others have also been linked with the Manchester United job in recent times.
